Embargo on the import of goods from Russia extended for a year

Embargo on the import of goods from Russia extended for a year: on December 18, the Cabinet of Ministers extended the two decrees dated December 30, 2015 (No. 1146 and No. 1147), providing the restrictions on the import of products originating from Russia.

The decrees provide a complete ban on the import of a number of goods from the Russian Federation, as well as the extension of customs duties on certain goods from Russia, which were imported duty-free until 2015. The validity of the decisions was extended until December 31, 2019, with the possibility of their extension in the future.

The measures provided by the Government were applied with the aim of countering the established trade restrictions on the import and transit of Ukrainian products by the Russian Federation, in order to ensure the protection of Ukrainian business.

In particular, for some Russian goods, instead of the zero rate in force under the agreement on the establishment of a free trade regime between the CIS countries, the so-called “most favored nation” regime of the WTO, which provides for the use of high import duty rates, operates on January 2, 2016.

The Government also extended the action of the decree, which imposed a ban on the import of goods from Russia, in particular: food products (dairy products, tea, coffee, beer, alcoholic beverages), cosmetic personal care products (shampoos, shower gels, soaps), products chemical industry for agriculture (herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, rodenticides), potassium chloride, as well as railway equipment (locomotives, wagons and track equipment) and others.
