From January 1, 2020, the Law No. 2697-VIII “On the Basic Principles (Strategy) of the State Environmental Policy of Ukraine for the Period until 2030” becomes effective.
It defines a number of strategic environmental issues, among which are the formation of environmental values and principles of sustainable consumption and production in society, ensuring sustainable development of the potential of natural resources of Ukraine (balanced forest management), ensuring integration of environmental policy in the decision-making process on the socio-economic development of Ukraine (the gradual discontinuation of untreated and insufficiently treated sewage discharges into the water, the restriction of the use of certain plastic products in the food industry, implementation of a voluntary environmental certification, product labelling, environmental audit), etc.
Also, a ban on the use of wild animals in the circus, for any other commercial activity of a public nature, except stationary zoos, is established. Ukraine will implement a system of green purchases and increase the responsibility for environmental damage.
