President to Propose New Energy Market Introduction Postpone For 1 Year

The President proposed to postpone the introduction of a new model of the electricity market until July 1, 2020.

The Verkhovna Rada registered the corresponding bill number 10376 on June 26.

In order to properly prepare for the introduction of a new electricity market, it is proposed to carry out test operations for buying and selling electricity starting from September 1, 2019, to the date of the introduction of new market participants, besides consumers.

In addition, the draft law provides for the principle of forming a fair price for electrical energy produced by coal-fired power plants.

On July 1, the provisions of the Law No. 2019 – VIII “On the Electric Power Market” regarding the introduction of a new model of the electricity market came into force. This Law (with the exception of these and some other provisions) entered into force in 2017.

The law provides for 5 mechanisms of sale and purchase of electricity, namely a bilateral agreement, a day-ahead market, an intraday market, the balancing market and the ancillary services market.
