Digitalization of Ukrainian economy

Digitalization is one of the main prospects for the development of the Ukrainian economy. The work on the development of the digital economy and society began in January 2018 with the approval of the same Concept for 2018-2020 and the approval of the Action Plan for its implementation. And on July 5, 2018, a constituent meeting of the Coordinating Council for the Development of the Digital Economy and Society was held, chaired by the Minister of Economic Development and Trade.

The purpose of the Council’s activities is the organization of the implementation of this Plan of Measures and the establishment of interaction between the Government, business, public organizations and society.

The Council includes working subgroups on the development of legislative initiatives, analytical studies of IT and telecommunications, digital infrastructure, public security, financial and non-cash settlements, digitalization of the social sphere, the development of smart-city, creative industries and the export of IT services, the digitization of education, health , science, the Internet of things, the industry of digital agriculture, the national system of paperless trade.

It is reported that the Council and its sub-working groups should prepare proposals for the effective development and use of Ukraine’s scientific and technical potential in the development of digital infrastructure, including ensuring broadband Internet access throughout the country. It is expected that the Council will meet twice a month.

In the classical sense, the term “digital economy” means an activity in which the main means of production are digital (electronic, virtual) data, both numerical and text.

The digital economy is based on digital technologies, the rapid development and dissemination of which already affect the traditional economy today, transforming it from consuming resources to creating them. Data is the key resource of the digital economy, they are generated and provide interaction due to the functioning of electronic devices, facilities and systems.
